Advisory: Large-Format Displays

Thank you for your interest in our products. For structures with a display area exceeding 10m², please note the following regulatory requirements, which the buyer is solely responsible for fulfilling.

Disclaimer

The information provided in this advisory serves as general guidance only. It is not legal advice and should not be relied upon as such. We will not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or reliance on, this information. Regulatory requirements and building owner policies may change. It is the buyer's sole responsibility to secure all necessary permits, approvals, and professional consultations to ensure a safe and compliant installation.

1. Permit Requirement from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA)

A permit is required for temporary advertising structures with a display area exceeding 10 square meters (m²). This applies to both indoor and outdoor installations, as large freestanding structures can pose a safety risk to the public in any location.

  • Responsibility: The buyer is responsible for applying for this permit via the BCA's CORENET e-Submission System.
  • Permit Type: The permit is officially known as a "Permit to Erect Temporary Building."
2. Consultation with Building Facilities Management (FM) or Owner

It is the responsibility of the buyer to obtain prior approval from the building's Facilities Management (FM) or owner before any installation or deployment. Building owners often have their own set of rules, which may be stricter than baseline regulatory requirements.

  • Requirements: They will have specific requirements regarding installation methods, fire safety compliance, and the need for a Professional Engineer's (PE) report.
3. Structural Safety and Professional Engineer (PE) Consultation

Due to their size and potential impact on public safety, these backdrops often require the involvement of a Professional Engineer (PE) to certify stability.

  • PE Role: A PE may be required to design, supervise, and certify the safe erection and stability of the backdrop, ensuring it can withstand wind loads (for outdoor use) and other external forces.
  • Scope of Supply: Please note that our service is limited to the supply of hardware and printed graphics. Our scope of work does not include the provision of technical drawings, structural blueprints, or PE endorsements. These must be independently sourced or charted by the buyer's appointed PE based on the specific site requirements.
  • Best Practice: Seek initial advice from the building's Facilities Management (FM) and, if necessary, engage a Professional Engineer (PE) to ensure all safety measures, including additional bracing or ballast, are implemented to prevent tipping.
